What This Programme Is
Writing at the Threshold is a short, standalone online taster session in creative writing and narrative practice for women revisiting their boarding school experience.
The live, guided session uses short texts and simple writing invitations to explore themes of transition and arrival. Writing is optional, can remain private, and no previous writing experience is required.
The taster stands on its own and also offers a clear introduction to the tone, pacing, and approach of the six month creative writing journey. The work is writing based, not therapeutic, and held within clear boundaries.

This taster session exists to offer a focused introduction to writing at moments of threshold - arrival, transition, and change - without requiring ongoing commitment. It creates a contained space to explore how writing and narrative are used reflectively, with attention to pace, choice, and care.

How the Session Works
Live, guided session
The session is held online and guided throughout, with a clear beginning, middle, and close.
Writing time
Short periods of quiet writing are built into the session. Writing is optional and can remain private.
Guided prompts
Writing invitations are offered to support reflection and exploration. There is no expectation to produce finished work.
Optional reflection
Participants may share reflections or writing if they wish. Listening and quiet presence are equally valid forms of participation.
Core Outcomes
By the end of the taster session, participants typically gain:

A clear sense of
the approach
Firsthand experience of the tone, pacing, and way writing invitations and discussion are held.

Clarity around your writing patterns
Increased awareness of your writing and what tends to interrupt or block it.

Practical prompts to return to
Simple writing invitations that can be explored privately after the session.

Clarity about what comes next
A basis for deciding whether the six-month journey, or no continuation feels right for you.
This course offers a clear experience of how the work is held, along with practical insight into your own writing patterns and needs. The goal is to provide enough clarity to decide, without pressure, whether and how you want to continue.
This course is for you if:
You attended boarding school and are curious about how that experience may still shape your sense of self, voice, or belonging
You are interested in creative writing as a reflective practice rather than as a technical skill
You want to experience the approach before deciding whether to commit to the six-month course
You prefer a short, contained session with clear structure and boundaries
This course is not for you if:
You are looking for therapy, counselling, or emotional support
You want detailed literary instruction or critique
You are not comfortable working in a live, group-based setting
You are unable to engage with reflective material at this time

Commitment and Participation
Participants are expected to be present for the session, engage with the writing invitations, and respect the shared group space. This includes listening attentively, maintaining confidentiality, and contributing in ways that support a focused and respectful environment.
My Role as Host
The host holds the structure of the session and guides its flow, ensuring the space remains clear, contained, and respectful.
Guidance is offered through clear framing and gentle direction rather than instruction or interpretation. The host does not analyse participants’ writing or direct it toward particular meanings.
Boundaries are maintained throughout. Feedback, where offered, takes the form of reflective noticing rather than critique. Participation is always by choice, and the host ensures that confidentiality, care, and respectful engagement are upheld.
